Book OnlineSome people attend their Dentist religiously, others find it easy to let the months or years slip by! The truth is, everyone’s dental needs vary but it is important to have regular check ups.
We try to make visiting us as fun as possible at Northway, but we know there are probably things you would rather be doing! It is important to attend the Dentist regularly, not just when you feel there is problem, as problems such as gum disease or decay may not be noticeable until they are more advanced. Your Dentist will be able to spot these things and treat them early. Your Dentist is also trained to look for ore serious problems such as oral cancer.
Catching problems early usually means less invasive treatment and a better outcome!
The general rule of thumb is to visit every 6 months. However, there are many factors that affect your oral health, including diet, oral hygiene, underlying illnesses and even pregnancy. Each persons needs are different and whilst some people could go years without any major problems, others may be more prone to decay. At each visit, your Dentist can suggest a good time frame for your next appointment based on your individual health.
There are lots of factors that affect the risk of you developing problems with your oral health, however some main ones include:
Pregnancy
Smoking
Diabetes
Gum Disease
Underlying Illnesses
Simply being prone to tooth decay
The most important thing is to maintain your oral hygiene, follow your Dentists advice and contact your Dentist for an earlier or urgent appointment if you feel you have any problems!
